Music: Yo-Yo Ma Visits - Mister Rogers' Neighborhood

In this episode Mister Rogers talks about different string instruments (the bass violin, cello, viola, and violin), they visit a factory that makes bass violins, and visits a famous cellist, Yo-Yo Ma. Mister Rogers and Yo-Yo Ma talk about the different moods you can play on musical instruments. Yo-Yo Ma talks about how he started to play the cello. In this video he says his cello was made in Italy in 1712 in a village called Cremona by a man named Stradivarius.

Ukulele Music Craft

There are different ways you can make a ukulele craft. My daughter made one in December 2018 at a homeschooling enrichment program. It was in her "Music From Trash" class. This class was inspired by the Landfill Harmonic. There is a video about this orchestra at Paraguay’s Recycled Orchestra You can listen to the video Landfill Harmonic Amazing and Inspirational to learn more about this orchestra.
My daughter used a box, toilet paper rolls, rubberbands, juice bottle lids, tongue depressors (large craft sticks), and lots of clear tape. You could use a paper towel roll instead of toilet paper rolls.
Below you will find what she created in her class. As you can tell, the writing is not very clear in the below photo, so you might not be able to read it very well.

Paper Plate Ukulele

I found a Playable Cardboard Ukelele that interesting read about how it is made. It's a lot of work but at least it is fun to read. If you want to make one, you can but it is not a craft for children. You can hear the Cardboard Uke Video - House of the Rising Sun played.
